Students and faculty gathered outside Fraser Woods Montessori School on Wednesday, September 21, to celebrate the 2016 International Day of Peace. The gathering promoted the United Nation's worldwide celebration of Peace Day.

Fraser Woods Montessori Head of School Chris Robertson welcomed the school community to the gathering before he read a quote from Thich Nhat Hanh's poem "Being Peace."

The school community gathered in a circle and held hands to sing, "Light a Candle for Peace," an annual tradition, this year led by teacher Yon-Kyung Kim. Some students also held flags celebrating "world peace" around the circle.

Traditionally, other Montessori schools around the world also sing the song at different allotted times so the song can be sung continuously for 24 hours.

"Sing peace around the world," the students sang, as Ms Kim walked around the circle. "Light a candle for peace. Light a candle for love. Light a candle that shines all the way around the world."
