Following a review of revised plans for a scoreboard for Glander Field #3, a youth baseball field at Fairfield Hills, Planning & Zoning Commission (P&Z) members on September 21 approved by consensus the scoreboard's design.

The scoreboard would be positioned in right-center field at Glander Field #3, a recently built facility off Mile Hill Road South that will be used by Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball.

On September 7, Edward Marks, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, had sought the P&Z's endorsement for an initial version of the scoreboard, but P&Z members then asked that the design be modified.

The approved scoreboard will measure four feet tall by eight feet wide. The blue scoreboard would bear white lettering. The internally lit electronic scoreboard will list the scores of the home team and the visiting team. It also will list the current inning of play and the number of outs, balls, and strikes.

The initial version of the structure depicted an advertising sign positioned atop the scoreboard. The blue advertising sign with white lettering bore the message "Newtown Family Dentistry - Drs. Condon & Golisano."

In exchange for donating the scoreboard, the dental firm would have its advertising message connected to the scoreboard.

However, at the September 7 session, some P&Z members questioned the scoreboard's design and asked that the advertising sign be smaller, be positioned at the bottom of the scoreboard, and also clearly state that the scoreboard was donated by the dental firm.

The modified design addresses the several issues raised by P&Z members. The addition of the words "donated by" results in the lettering of the advertising message being smaller.
