To the Editor:

Thank you to our supporters for your continued loyalty and support of our ninth annual Firehouse Ride. We had a beautiful day and an amazing turnout of riders and picnic guests! This year, we had approximately 71 motorcycles enjoy an escorted ride through our scenic neighboring towns. First Selectman Dan Rosenthal and NH&L Chief Tug Ward had kind words to say about the department and first responders as well as the generous supporters and sponsors of the ride. As the bikes lined up and prepared for departure, Deacon Dan O’Connor led them in prayer and blessed each rider as they exited the driveway.

A BBQ pig roast was offered after the riders returned, and the food was delicious, thanks to John of Creative Catering! This year, we honored Ed “Stretch” Forbell as a Life Member and a recognized longtime volunteer for the company. Also, we offered a silent auction, which was a great success and offered many unique items, such as hand crafted items, local business gift cards, and much more! Many thanks to all who came and donated their time and money to this event, especially Dan from Smokey Mountain Chew, The Law Offices of James Gaston, The Borough of Newtown, Oak Street Design/Chris Haggerty, The Pendergast Family, Mad Hatters Moon Bounce, Newtown MediSpa, and Associated Refuse Haulers. A very special thank you to all the members of Newtown Hook & Ladder and the men and women who volunteer to put this event together!
