On Wednesday, October 10, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host Peter Seltzer, who will critique the work of SCAN members.

This program will begin at 7:30 pm and will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).

The public is invited to observe the interesting process, free of charge.

Peter Seltzer’s paintings in oil and pastel have been exhibited at numerous public venues, including Butler Institute of American Art (Ohio), where his work has appeared multiple times in their annual Mid-Year Exhibit and other group shows. The Butler has also given him a solo show featuring his paintings in pastel.

Mr Seltzer has also shown at New Britain Museum of American Art; Noyes Museum of Art (N.J.); Canton Museum of Art (Ohio); and National Arts Club, National Academy of Design, and the Salmagundi Club, all in New York City.

In addition, his work is represented in the permanent collections of Butler Institute of American Art, the Britain Museum of American Art, Ackland Art Museum (N.C.), Harvard University, and New Haven Paint and Clay 100-plus year collection.

Many in-depth articles about his work and technique have appeared in American Artist Magazine, Artist’s Magazine, Pastel Journal and Connecticut Magazine. In addition, his paintings have been included in fine art books such as The Best of Pastel 1 and 2, The Best of Sketching and Drawing, and Pure Color: The Best of Pastel.

He has been honored with the designation Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America and has received a “by invitation only” membership from Allied Artists of America. Among his 100-plus awards are four Gold and five Silver Medals in international exhibitions.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is always available by calling 203-426-6654 or visiting scanart.org.

“Threads 4” is a 24-1/8-by-24-1/8-inch pastel on paper by Peter Seltzer. The multi-award-winning master artist will be offering critiques of works by members of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown during a free public program on October 10.
