The Board of Education honored the district's 2016 Paraprofessional of the Year Lisa Condon as part of the Celebration of Excellence portion of its meeting on Tuesday, October 4.

Superintendent of Schools Joseph V. Erardi, Jr, introduced Ms Condon, a paraprofessional at Newtown High School, to the board, and NHS Principal Lorrie Rodrigue spoke about Ms Condon's nomination.

"Having worked with Lisa for the last several years, it is so easy to celebrate what makes her such a valued paraprofessional at the high school," said Dr Rodrigue, adding that Ms Condon is always there for her students, from when they arrive off the bus in the morning and throughout the day.

"Just to provide a little extra TLC, just so they can experience success and feel loved," said Dr Rodrigue, "and that is what Lisa does. And yes. High school students need that as well."

Ms Condon is also training as a comfort dog handler, according to Dr Rodrigue.

"Lisa is truly genuine, committed, and so very caring," Dr Rodrigue said.

Dr Rodrigue said she cannot think of a more deserving individual of the Connecticut State Department of Education's Anne Marie Murphy Paraeducator of the Year Award. The ceremony for Ms Condon to receive her award from the state was scheduled for Thursday, October 13.

"Congratulations Lisa," Dr Rodrigue said.

Ms Condon was applauded by the school board and those in attendance.

School Board Chair Keith Alexander presented Ms Condon with a certificate and thanked her for her efforts.
