To the Editor:

It is important that I write this letter supporting Maureen Crick Owen for selectman. Many people in Newtown do not know how hard she has been working to support the town and its citizens.

First, let me tell you that Maureen is an 11th generation Newtown resident. She was born and raised here and is totally familiar with the town, laws, rules, and regulations. She attended and graduated from the local schools, and also has attended college.

Maureen has the experience of seeing how government and businesses operate, as several of her immediate ancestors were first selectman, president of Newtown Savings Bank, and many other positions in town.

However, the most important thing is that Maureen herself has been very actively involved in town functions, activities, committees, and boards. Maureen is president of the Newtown Village Cemetery Association. She is on the Parks & Recreation Commission. She is secretary of the Borough Zoning Board, and has recently been appointed as Borough Zoning Enforcement Officer.

My experience with Maureen over the last several years has been as president of the Newtown Ambulance Association. Maureen has for several years been the office administrator for the ambulance, and coordinates many of the multiple activities required to keep the ambulance at peak efficiency. I can't think of a better person to serve as a selectman.

Maureen doesn't make a big splash with all her activities, but in her own quiet way she accomplishes quite a bit.

Just as a final comment, I think you should know that she does not base her opinions and actions as to whether it is a Democratic or Republican proposal, but on whether it is good for Newtown.

So, my final remark is that I know that if Maureen is elected we will have a wonderful, capable, energetic, and careful person who will be great for Newtown.
