The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host Shauna Shane painting a still life in oil on Wednesday, October 24, at 1:30.

The informative demo will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). Admission is free, and it is not necessary to be a member of SCAN to attend.

Ms Shane will demonstrate the evolution of an oil painting from start to finish, discussing in real time the thought process that informs each decision, including the initial design, and how to block in the most efficient under-painting. Known for her willingness to share a lifetime of painting knowledge applicable to any medium. She has been a guest for SCAN in the past, and her demonstrations are always entertaining and filled with useful tools that anyone can use.

Working in a variety of mediums Ms Shane’s paintings are saturated with light and color, informed by many years of painting from life. Whether of still life, landscape, animals, or the figure, her paintings reflect a solid academic training as well as the ability to communicate the emotion and unique atmosphere of a scene.

Ms Shane has exhibited in international competitions around the country. She is a Signature Member of Connecticut Pastel Society and Hudson Valley Art League and an Elected Artist Member of Lyme Art Association and Connecticut Plein Air Society.

She teaches at West Hartford Art League, Glastonbury Art Guild, and her own studio in Storrs.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is always available by calling 203-426-6654 or at scanart.org.

“Lilies in Copper” is a watercolor by Shauna Shane, who will be working in oil when she serves as the next guest artist for The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown.
