Domenic Valinaggi

Domenic Valinaggi, 94, of Sandy Hook died peacefully in his home October 23, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 31, 1923, in North Canaan, Conn., son of Louisa (Pelligrini) and John Valinaggi.regionalhospicect.org; or to the American Cancer Society, at cancer.org.

During World War II, he served in the US Army as a master sergeant in the 890th Air Engine Squad and the 472nd Air Service Group. He was awarded the Bronze Service Star for his service in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe.

While in Germany, Mr Valinaggi met the love of his life, and they married on April 7, 1946, while still abroad. When the war ended, they made their home in Connecticut where they raised their four children.

His loving wife of 71 years, Barbara; son Richard Valinaggi and his wife, Debbie, of New Milford; three daughters and spouses, Sandy and Gary Doski of Sandy Hook, Suzan and Douglas Picotte of Henderson, N.C., and Cathy and Victor Alves of Danbury; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson survive Mr Valinaggi.

The family would like to thank the Regional Hospice of Danbury for the exceptional care of Mr Valinaggi.

Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, October 26, from 5 to 8 pm, at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford. A Mass of Christian burial will to be celebrated Friday, October 27, at noon, at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Burial will follow at St Francis Cemetery in New Milford.
