Parents Programs

Thursday, January 18 – “Parenting in the Teen Zone.”

Monday, January 22 – “Fathers’ Night”

PARENTING IN THE TEEN ZONE, for parents of middle and high school students, will begin on Thursday, January 18, and continue on January 25, February 1, 8, and 15. The program begins at 7 pm. Perfect for parents trying to understand the ups and downs, ins and outs, and do’s and don’ts of parenting a teen or almost teen. This is a five-week session and the fee is $25 per person or $35 per couple, which includes all materials.

POSITIVE PARENTING FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS is a new course for parents. This course runs Mondays, 9 am. Dates for the New Year are January 22, February 5, 26, March 5, 19, April 2, 23, 30, May 14, and June 4. The fee is $25 per person or $35 per couple. This includes all materials and applies for the whole year, as this in an on-going program. All are welcome at any time.

It is necessary to register for all parenting courses.

FATHERS’ NIGHT – Please note change of date – kicks off the New Year on Monday, January 22, at 7:30.

NEW MOMS’ GROUP – Eight week program.

Moms of children birth to 9 months – Wednesdays, 10-11 am. Begins January 17.

Working moms of babies or toddlers – Saturday, 9:30 to 10:30 am. Begins January 20.

Moms of toddlers and pre-schoolers – Fridays, 11-12 am – FULL – but please call for waitlist – 2nd class hopefully to form.

AN INFORMATIVE COMMUNITY PANEL: “SUBSTANCE AND TODAYS’ TEENS” – Wednesday, February 7, at 7:30 pm in the Newtown High School Lecture Hall.

4-H Clubs – On Going

Fourth and fifth grades continue to meet on Monday afternoons from 3:15-4:30. Middle School grades meet on Wednesdays, from 4 to 5:15 pm. Both groups will meet at NYS. Membership is free but space is limited. For additional information or to register, please call the office.

Youth Group Meetings

The High School Youth Advisory Board (YAB) will meet on Monday, January 29, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

Middle School Youth Advisory Board (MS YAB) will hold their first meeting of the new year on Tuesday, January 23, from 3:45 to 4:45 pm in the MS teachers’ lunch room. We will work on a special project.

 NYCAAP will have a guest speaker at its first meeting on Tuesday, January 16. Meeting time is 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Please watch this column for all meeting dates and times.

Membership in the above groups is free and new members are welcome at all times. For additional info please call the NYS office.

Super Sitters

Due to the popularity of this program, another session will be added. Those dates will be Monday, April 23, 30, and May 7, 14, and 21. Time is 4 to 5:30 pm. The fee is $25 and includes all materials. Snacks are always provided. If interested, please sign up quickly as all other sessions for the year are full.
