SWC Playoff Update: Volleyball And Girls' Soccer Teams Win

The Newtown High School girls' volleyball team defeated visiting New Milford 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-17) in the South-West Conference Tournament quarterfinals on October 28.

Newtown's girls' soccer team went on the road and upset Weston 2-0 in other opening-round conference playoff action. The NHS boys' soccer team lost 1-0 to visiting Pomperaug of Southbury in the quarters.

In the volleyball match, Zosia Teraszkiewicz compiled 17 kills to go along with a block and ten digs; Allie Nowacki had eight kills; Gabby Soltis had an ace, three kills, 33 assists, and seven digs; Emily Daoust had four digs; Addy Cordova had an ace and four kills; and Liz Anesi added an ace, three kills, and a pair of digs. The No. 2 Nighthawks advance to the Wednesday, November 1, semifinals.

On the soccer field, the No. 6 Hawks avenged a 2-1 regular-season defeat to Weston with a 2-0 blanking of the No. 3 seed. Sydney Oltran and Ella Morits both scored and Oltran and Brooke Jackson had assists. Newtown will visit Brookfield in the semis on Monday, October 30, at 6 pm.
