Cross Country Teams Race In State Meets

The Class LL state cross country championship races were held at Manchester's Wickham Park, on October 28, and Newtown High School's girls' and boys' teams had strong performances.

The girls, led by Emily Tressler's eighth-place finish in a time of 20:00, came in eighth as a team with a five runner total of 260.

Lu Hage was 48th, Hallie Filan came in 54th, Julia Clark came in 71st, and Gloria Rowley was 79th. Cate Norton also ran and placed 80th.

Glastonbury, with a 67 points, was tops among 19 teams.

On the boys' side, Newtown came in 10th with a score of 251. Staples was first among 27 schools with 55 points.

Newtown was led by Ryan Escoda, who placed 30th in 17:14.

Nick Jacobs was 39th, Christian Lestik 51st, Max Bloomquist 53rd, and Jack Kuligowski 78th. Also running for Newtown were Joel Duval in 100th and Alex Wong, who finished 133rd.
