Music, Walking Tour And More: Charles Ives Day, October 31

DANBURY — Danbury Music Centre has unveiled its plans for Danbury’s annual celebration honoring the October 20, 1874 birth of Danbury native Charles Edward Ives. The day-long celebration, including a concert of the Rag Tag players, will take place on Saturday, October 31.

The featured event will be a “walk-through” of Ives’ Symphony Number 2. In one amusing hour The Rag Tag Players will prepare audiences for the next day’s concert of the Danbury Symphony Orchestra at which time the entire symphony will be performed by the 60-piece orchestra.

The walk-through will take place at Danbury Music Centre, 256 Main Street, at 4 pm, on Saturday.

The concert of the entire symphony will take place on Sunday, November 1, at 3 pm, at Ives Concert Hall, 181 White Street.

Other activities planned for October 31 include a hike up Pine Mountain at 9:30 am; a visit to the composer’s birth home on Mountainville Avenue at noon, followed by a visit to the Danbury Museum to see artifacts of the composer; and a 2 pm visit to Charles Ives’ grave, located within Wooster Cemetery.

All events of the day, including the concert, are free.

Ms Sudick, the executive director of Danbury Music Centre; and Larry Deming, director of the music center’s Summer String’s Program, have coordinated the events for Ives Day.
