Nearly 120 public high school students from 33 cities and towns attended the annual Convention and Exposition of the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities on October 4 at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Cromwell.

The 18th annual convention featured 19 workshops on a wide range of pressing local government issues; a trade show with 108 companies featuring products and services for municipalities; and a stimulating keynote address by William Hudnut, a former Congressman from Indiana, mayor of Indianapolis for 16 years, and now a Senior Fellow for Public Policy at the Urban Land Institute in Washington, D.C.

More than 800 officials participated in the daylong event, with representation from 120 cities and towns. Sessions of particular interest to students included Why Public Service?—A Workshop for High School Students; Reducing Youth Violence in Your Community: What Works, Who Can Help; and Challenges in Education Funding: Where is Connecticut Headed?
