Newtown Bridle Lands Association (NBLA) is inviting the public for a walk along the first phase of the newly established Trail of Angels. Located at The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation property, on Old Farm Road within Fairfield Hills, the trail is NBLA’s project in response to the events of 12/14.

Following that day, the association committed itself to establishing a memorial trail. Fundraisers were held as NBLA explored various options for locating the trail. The goal was to provide a trail for passive users — equestrians, walkers, hikers, nature observers — to enjoy and find peace in a beautiful natural setting in Sandy Hook and/or Newtown.

According to the project’s gofundme page, NBLA “is very excited” to have partnered with The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation, which is developing an animal sanctuary on land along Old Farm Road.

Plans are moving forward to establish the Trail of Angels on the foundation’s property. The project will include restoration of old trails that are overgrown, including some that are blocked by fallen trees in many places. The plan of NBLA is to have the trail eventually connect with other trails on town and state land at Fairfield Hills.

The walk along the first phase is planned for Saturday, November 7, beginning at 10 am.

To get to the current trailhead, follow Wasserman Way to Trades Lane; go north on Trades Lane, and follow it all the way to the end, passing the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard headquarters, and then bearing right onto Old Farm Road. Follow Old Farm all the way to the end, passing Newtown Park & Bark and the Animal Control Center.

Parking will be along the dirt road prior to the small bridge. Those participating in the walk should meet at the bridge.

Additional funds are needed to cover the cost of clearing and signage as well as continuing maintenance and improvements to the trail. To make a donation in support of the Trail of Angels, visit gofundme.com/dn53kqf4.
