Swim Team Has Record-Setting Efforts In SWC Championship

Newtown High School's girls' swimming and diving team placed fifth in the South-West Conference championship. The diving competition took place at Weston High on November 2, and the swimming events were held at Masuk of Monore on November 5.

The Nighthawks scored 233.5 points. Weston, with 567, was first in the 11-team competition.

Mary Hufziger set the Newtown school record in the 100 yard freestyle event, and finished second in the race, with a time of 53.42.

Hufziger also had her personal best time in the 100 backstroke, making her final touch in 1:01.01, also for a second-place outcome.

Diver Kiera Sughrue was fourth with a score of 357.80.

Maddie Carter placed fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.63.

Newtown's 200 free relay team comprising Lianna Perazzo, Amanda Berry, Emma Riebe, and Carter was fifth in 1:49.10.

Carter placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke race in 1:11.61.

The 400 relay team of Perazzo, Riebe, Julia DiMartino, and Hufziger was fifth in 3:58.94.
