Joseph William Morris

Joseph William Morris, 97, of Newtown, formerly of Danbury, died October 23 at River Glen Nursing Home, Southbury. He was the husband of Eleanor (Valine) Morris. He was born in Danbury, March 30, 1918, a son of the late Lillian (Miller) and Howard Morris.

He attended Danbury schools and the former State Trade School (now Abbott Tech) and was a carpenter all his life.

Mr Morris served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for Sperry Rail for 18 years and later at the Danbury Fair for ten years, retiring at its closing.

He was a member and former deacon at the First Congregational Church, Danbury, and enjoyed fishing, bowling, and the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, his sons J. William Morris II, and his wife Sharon, of Middlebury and Gary B. Morris, and his wife Barbara, of Torrington; daughter Darlene Peterson of Winter Springs, Fla.; three grandsons, Sean Peterson of Florida, Jay Morris of Pennsylvania, and Matthew Morris of Connecticut; and a great-grandson survive Mr Morris. Besides his parents, his brothers Howard, Walter, and George Morris predeceased him.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
