The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Robert Crawford painting a landscape in acrylic at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, November 14, at 7:30 pm.

The demonstration will be in the lower room at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, free of charge.

Robert Crawford is an illustrator and fine artist living in the beautiful northwest hills of Connecticut. He works in his own unique style, which he says is influenced by magic realism and the regionalism of post World War II artists like Grant Wood and Thomas Hart Benton.

The artist points to some highlights in his career, having most recently won first place in The Artist’s Magazine All Media competition as well as being a finalist in Southwest Art’s Artistic Excellence Competition.

His work for Bank of America featured a gigantic mural in Chicago on three sides of a building facing the Kennedy Expressway, where upwards of a half million people a day passed by the work.

As an illustrator, his work has been on the cover of major magazines, such as Fortune, Business Week, The Atlantic, US News and World Report, Newsweek, and Rolling Stone. Mr Crawford is also pleased to include two LL Bean Christmas covers in his portfolio.

He has shown in galleries in New York City and as far away as Germany and Japan.

His work has won numerous awards from the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, Graphics, and Print. His paintings have been included in many group shows.

Mr Crawford’s work was also included in the latest Society of Illustrators show on the environment, “Fragile Earth.”

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is available by calling 203-426-6654 or visiting scanart.org.

“Maddie” is a 24-by-24-inch acrylic on panel by Robert Crawford, who will lead the next artist demonstration for The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown.
