Joseph F. Dorrico

Former Sandy Hook Resident

Joseph F. Dorrico, 90, of Stamford, died November 11, at The Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence, with his devoted family by his side. Born in Stamford September 22, 1919, to Mary and Frank Dorrico, he grew up on the West Side of the city

 He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Cataldo Dorrico, with whom he made his home in Sandy Hook for almost ten years; his daughter, Rosemary Dorrico Madia and her husband, Tony Madia, of Stamford; two sisters-in-law; cousins; and several nieces and nephews.

He served in the United States Army, Battery A, 211th Anti Aircraft Artillery (AW) Battalion, for five years during World War II. He worked his way in the United States Postal Service from mail clerk in Glenville to postmaster in New Canaan, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the American Legion, The Elks Club, president of the Glenville Community League, chairman of Red Cross drives, and a volunteer for the Glenville Fire Department. Mr Dorrico was also a proud past president of the Byram as well as the New Canaan chapter of Rotary International.

Visitation will be at 9 am, Saturday, November 14, at the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, at 10 am. Entombment will follow at St John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum, Darien, with full military honors., is handling the funeral.
