SANTA FE, N.M. — Altermann Galleries will present a two-day auction, December 15–16, at the Santa Fe Hilton. Previews of the works will commence at 9 am the morning of the auction.

The Saturday auction will consist of traditional American Western art; on Sunday, Native American art, including pottery, basketry, textiles, sculpture, photography and paintings, will be offered.

Highlights of the December 15 event of more than 175 works include a collection of works by Frederic Remington, including casting number 96 of the “Broncho Buster,” “The Buckskin Series” prints and several drawings. C.M. Russell will be represented by a highly detailed drawing. Also included is a 21-by-29¼-inch painting by Thomas Hart Benton titled “Spring Tryout,” 1944.

The Taos Society of Artists will be well represented by the works of Oscar Berninghaus, Ernest Hennings and Bert Phillips. Other Northern New Mexico masters included are Jozef Bakos, Fremont Ellis, Henry Balink and Carl Redin; other Western artists are Edward Borein, Nick Eggenhofer, John Hauser Jr and Carl Oscar Borg.

Past and present members of the cowboy Artists of America, the National Academy of Western Art and Prix de West invitees to be offered are William Acheff, Cyrus Afsary, Roy Andersen, James Boren, Bill Anton, Paul Calle, Martin Grelle, David Mann, Frank McCarthy, John Moyers, William Moyers, Gary Niblett, Jim Norton, Grant Speed, Michael Stack and Curt Walters.

Recently deceased Cowboy Artist of America founder Joe Beeler is represented by a collection of six sculptures and a watercolor. Olaf Wieghorst, who, during his lifetime was refereed to as the Dean of Western American artists, will have a large offering of five oil paintings and six watercolors.

Additionally, there will be works by Eric Sloane, William Aiken Walker, Maurice Braun, Porfirio Salinas and Robert Wood.

On December 16, some 250 pieces will cross the block, highlighted by a collection of works by Allan Houser, including stone and bronze sculptures and a painting and drawing by the Native American artist. Also offered will be multiple sculptures by Doug Hyde.

The second day will include a large selection of pottery, including works by Lucy M. Lewis, Maria and Julian Martinez, Grace Medicine Flower, Joseph Lonewolf, Nampeyo, Margaret Tafoya, Virgil Ortiz, Mary Singer, Robert Tenario, Nancy Youngblood and Nathan Youngblood. In addition, there will be textiles offered from Two Grey Hills and gold tone photographic works by Edward Sheriff Curtis.
