Help Rockaway Get Back On Its Dancing Feet

The Graceful Planet Moving Arts Center is teaming up with Mrs Elaine’s School of Dance in Rockaway, N.Y.

Mrs Elaine’s dance school suffered minor damage from Hurricane Sandy, and as of November 16 was still without power. The dancers at Mrs Elaine’s are anxious to get back to dance and normal life.

But many of them have lost everything.

To help out, The Graceful Planet, 7 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook, is collecting new and gently used dance wear and shoes. They are also sponsoring a pair of fundraising events on Saturday, November 24.

The first event will help work off that Thanksgiving turkey. Yoga & Pilates will be a special 8:30 to 10 am class, with donations accepted.

The second event is Drop & Shop, from 10 am until 2 pm.

Parents are invited to drop off the children (ages 3+) and go shopping, run errands, etc. Graceful Planet will break out the karaoke machine and practice singing Christmas carols for the Sandy Hook Tree Lighting on December 1. Then there will be dancing, yoga, and an art project to give to the Rockaway dancers.

Pack a lunch for the kids; $20 is the suggested donation.

Reservations are requested, and can be done through e-mail at gracefulplanet@aol.com.

Visit GracefulPlanet.com or call 203-426-8215 for additional information about either program and other offerings at the movement and dance studio.
