Hat City Theater Is Bringing

‘Hansel & Gretel’ To NHS

Hat City Music Theater will welcome vocalists from the Aspen Music Festival, Santa Fe Opera and Los Angeles Opera, and instrumentalists from the Metropolitan Opera and Broadway, to star in its December 4 performances of Humperdinck’s joyful family opera, Hansel & Gretel.

The perennial holiday favorite will be seen Saturday, December 4, at 3 and 7:30 pm, in the auditorium at Newtown High School. Tickets are $25, $20 and $10 and are available by calling the Danbury-based Hat City at 746-2694. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Maestro David Katz, who is also artistic director of Hat City Music Theater, will conduct the cast of five young professional singing actors, a local chorus of Gingerbread Children, and the newly named Candlewood Chamber Symphony in a fully-staged English language production. Mr Katz founded greater Danbury’s only professional music, theater and opera company in 2002.

Among the leading artists in Hansel & Gretel are several winners of Hat City’s own Friedrich Schorr Memorial Performance Prize in Voice international competition, including three local audience favorites returning to the stage of Hat City following debuts during the company’s acclaimed inaugural season.

Accompanying Hat City Music Theater’s Hansel & Gretel will be Candlewood Chamber Symphony, Hat City’s own professional chamber orchestra, and the only professional chamber orchestra in northern Fairfield County. Founded earlier this year, Candlewood Chamber Symphony includes former members of the MET Opera Orchestra in New York City and current performers from Broadway theater orchestras and other professional ensembles throughout our region.
