Garden Club Greens Sale

Returns This Weekend

The Garden Club of Newtown will hold its Annual Greens Sale on Saturday, December 5, from 9 am to 1 pm, at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street at the flagpole.

This annual fundraiser is in the minds of the members of the club all year as they dry plants from their gardens and collect pinecones and other items to use in decorating wreaths, swags and table arrangements for the holiday season. Tabletop boxwood trees, fire starter boxes and kissing balls are always popular items and there will also be bunches of loose greens available. Holly, winterberry, rose hips, boxwood and a wide assortment of evergreens will be incorporated into the designs.

The main focus of the club members is to provide a variety of unusual holiday decorations made from fresh and natural materials at great prices.

Gardening books and color wheels by noted Newtown author and gardener Sydney Eddison will be available for sale. Also available will be From Flower Buds to Taste Buds, a cookbook filled with great recipes from club members and special friends.

The Garden Club of Newtown uses profits from this event to contribute to the community in many ways including scholarships for Newtown High School graduates through Newtown Scholarship Association. The club also maintains the gardens at the Matthew Curtiss House and the Blue Star Highway Memorial Marker at VFW Post 308.
