On Saturday, December 10, from 10 am to 2 pm, Newtown police officers will be stationed outside two local stores, accepting donations for Toys For Tots.

The annual Stuff-A-Cruiser event is the police department's way of supporting the annual toy collection for children whose parents need help putting gifts under Christmas trees.

Newtown police officers will be outside TJ Maxx in Sand Hill Plaza, 228 South Main Street, and The Toy Tree, 14 Church Hill Road.

All types of toys will be accepted, and then donated to the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Program.

The mission of the program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December each year, and then distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the Toys For Tots campaign is conducted, according to the program's website, toysfortots.org.

In addition to the Stuff-A-Cruiser event, approximately a dozen businesses in Newtown are hosting Toys For Tots donation boxes. In addition to a list published last week, Area Coordinator Dave Silber has announced that The Vein Institute, at 33 Church Hill Road, is also hosting a donation box.

Donations should be received by December 17, so that they can be collected and then distributed to those who need them in time for Christmas.

For additional information contact Mr Silber at 203-438-4333 or dave4handyman@gmail.com.

Newtown Police officers will have two Toys For Tots collection locations set up for four hours on Saturday, December 5. Those unable to get to TJ Maxx or The Toy Tree between 10 am and 2 pm can still donate to the US Marine Corps Toys For Tots Foundation at any number of collection spots set up in town until December 18.
