To the Editor:Ms Brody, a published poet, is a former longtime resident of Newtown.

Those who voted for Mr Trump to serve as our president, believing his campaign promises that he holds the interests of American workers and the middle class at heart, please pay attention to the people he is selecting for his executive staff, and for his cabinet.

He is surrounding himself, and injecting into the nation's cabinet, one billionaire after another, one CEO of Wall Street banking institutions after another, and one fossil fuel profiteer after another. Do we think these persons, who have made their millions and billions out of exploiting cheap labor and taken our taxes, in the form of business subsidies, will have any class at heart save their own… their own interests that have proven so profitable?

Have we noticed the Goldman Sachs executive named to Trump's Cabinet? This same Goldman Sachs megabank was bailed out at the expense of billions of our tax dollars, when its failure and those of its cohorts caused the Great Recession. The greed of these institutions and their top executives almost bankrupted our nation less than a decade ago.

Short memories may reap dreadful rewards. Trump's promises as a campaigning candidate were easily made. He has and will make "reality" headline gestures - saving a thousand jobs here and there while making certain they are in companies of no major importance. Mark my words: he will not limit the policies of any significant corporation… not those dealing in fossil fuels, not those with military contracts, not agribusiness, which, by the way, profits by employment of undocumented labor, and certainly not predatory real estate investors.

Those who are libertarians, who detest federal interventions in their lives: Trump may defend your right to bear assault weapons, but his future appointments to the Supreme Court will achieve a majority who will bring legal sanctions into your bedrooms, and your daughters will find it harder to achieve equal pay in the marketplace. In the service of maximum resource extraction, be it coal, oil, minerals, or lumber, his administration will support eminent domain and will take your property.

Those in the "Rust Belt" will wait in vain for a raise in wages that makes a real net difference. Billionaire businessmen think of shareholders and CEOs first, labor a poor second. Just such billionaires are being placed in Trump's administration.

Voters who bought Trump into power: will you come to know buyers' remorse?
