Members of the Newtown Senior Center were able to internationally travel vicariously through the photo series Hank Meirowitz presented during the Lunch & Learn program on December 7.

Mr Meirowitz showed photographs from his 14-day river cruise to Myanmar (formerly Burma) in November on an overhead projector. He also had hard copies of his art displayed as magnets and block prints, which he gave out to people to keep.

His “photo journey,” as he calls it, featured many different landscapes, architecture, and portraits from his stops in Yangon (formerly Rangoon) and Mandalay.

Mr Meirowitz photographed everything from Yangon’s Shwedagon Pagoda, a social gathering spot that is filled with gold figures and was constructed 2500 years ago, to a young Burmese child with thanaka (a yellow-looking paste made from powered tree bark) on their face.

For more information about photographer Hank Meirowitz, e-mail him at hmeirowitz@aol.com or call 860-355-2809.
