Head O' Meadow second grade students rotated through different classrooms on December 5 to learn about different holiday traditions in other countries. From making maracas in "Venezuela" to creating "fireworks" in "Albania," the students learned about a number of different cultures and traditions.

The Holiday Traditions lessons were also held on December 8. Over the two days students learned about traditions in Sweden, Israel, Australia, Albania, Mexico, Venezuela, India, and China. School staff and parent volunteers organized and ran the lessons, which each included a presentation about a holiday and a craft activity.

After learning about Albania's New Year celebrations, students were directed through using plastic forks to paint fireworks on black paper. Glitter was sprinkled to add the finishing touch of sparkle to their "night skies." Parent Miranda Dauti offered the presentation about Albania for students.

In another classroom on December 5, the second graders learned about Christmas celebrations in Venezuela and created maracas using folded paper plates and decorations.

Other crafts included creating sand art in honor of learning about Diwali celebrations in India and making paper lanterns in honor of the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Each second grader had a small blue notebook that was used as their passport to enter each "country." As the students entered the classrooms, teachers and parent volunteers stamped the passports.
