Girls' Basketball Team Picks Up Wins

Newtown High School's girls' basketball team won a pair of road games last week, defeating nonconference opponent East Lyme 61-58 on December 18 and doubling up South-West Conference foe Weston 62-31 on December 20

In the win over East Lyme, Nicki DaPra led the way with 17 points. Carlie Smith and Cyleigh Wilson dropped in 11 points each, and Shea Murphy scored ten. Amy Sapenter dished out seven assists.

In the triumph over Weston, DaPra had a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. Smith scored 13, and Cailin Wilson added 11. Cyleigh Wilson had eight assists. Newtown carries an overall record of 4-1 into a Friday, December 28 home contest with Mansfield, Mass., which is followed by another home game the next day as Cromwell visits at 4 pm.

Jackie Matthews and the Hawks will host games on Friday December 28 and Saturday, December 29.
