Blue Monkeys vs Purple Eaters: For the Blue Monkeys, offense was led by Julia Sullivan, Jackie Matthews and defense was led by Grace Bertsche, Kaley Meisenheimer. For the Purple Eaters, offense was led by Colleen Phaneuf, Kendra Saunders and defense was led by Sam Bicho, Adele Whitlock

Ferocious Sunflowers vs Cheese Doodles: For the Sunflowers, offense was led by Claire Dubois, Cecilia Floros and defense was led by Anna Cartelli, Alea Willis. For the Cheese Doodles, offense was led by Veronica Vodola, Jillian Carrino and defense was led by Haley Filan, Hannah Groonell.

Firecrackers vs Celtics:  For the Firecrackers, offense was led by Katie Ryan, Ashley Hammonds and defense was led by Evie Schwertley, Sarah Tressler. For the Celtics, offense was led by Julia Sullivan, Sarah Tressler, Shannon Jackman and Annika Brady and defense was led by Nicki Dapra, Tess Davenport.

Bantams

H2O 19, Hot Tamales 7: For H2O, Julia Anderson and Larkin Huffman were impressive on offense and Rebecca Gavel and Lucy Draper played tough defense. For the Hot Tamales, Sarah Dowling and Caitlin Child led the offense, while Vanessa Tucker and Danielle Otero led the way on defense.

Jolly Ranchers 19, Crush 13: For Jolly Ranchers, Shannon Cheh and Jaclyn O’Leary were strong offensively and Caroline Condon and Riley Mulligan were tough on defense. For the Crush, Sarah Lindell and Catherine Rizk were the offensive leaders, while Camryn Findley and Allie Reczek were aggressive on defense.

Dark Sharks 8, Crazy Bananas 0: For the Sharks, Rachel Tomasino and Sarah Brittin led the offense, while Maggie Alexander and Lauren Montague led the defense. For the Bananas, Cory Mangold and Katie NcCabe led the offense, while Kira Smith and Lauryn Ankers were tough on defense.

H2O 8,  Jolly Ranchers 6: For H2O, Sarah Houle and Rebecca Gavel led the offense and Ashley Santore and Julia Nuzzo were strong on defense. For Ranchers, Heather Azzarito and Jordan Williams led the offense and Elizabeth Weisgerber and Abigail Pereira were aggressive on defense.

Crazy Bananas 20, Hot Tamales 7: For the Bananas, Kira Smith and Jemma Petit were the offensive leaders, while Danielle Powell and Julia Doyle were strong on defense. For the Tamales, Lauren Carrinoi and Caitlin Child led the offense, while Danni Otero and Sarah Dowling played great defense.

Dark Sharks 14, Crush 13: For the Sharks, Sarah Brittin and Lexi Leidlin led the offense, while Rachel Tomasino and Alex Futterman played pressure defense. For the Crush, Marcella Dailey and Haley Harkins led the offense, while Erin Burns and Madison Findley were great on defense.

Grade 5

Newtown 24, Norwalk 18: Nikki Zaccaro played a great all around game scoring 8 points and coming up with 5 steals. Megan Goyda and Meghan Doyle each scored 6 points apiece for the Lady Hawks. Colleen McCarthy and Jessica Maturo played great defense.

Newtown 25, Stamford 21: Megan Goyda had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Olivia Shaw and Nikki Zaccaro each scored 4 points to help out on offense. Jessica Maturo had 5 steals to lead the defense.

Newtown 31, Fairfield 18: Newtown girls fifth grade travel basketball team remains undefeated on the season handing Fairfield pal girls a tough loss. Olivia Shaw lead Newtown’s offense with 8 points. Megan Goyda added 6, and Kamdyn Moroney, Allie Indelicato and Colleen McCarthy all adding 4 points to help the cause. Jillian Pieretti and Haley Conrad played great defense to add to a well-played game.

Grade 6

Newtown 28, Wilton 22: Newtown came back from a four-point halftime deficit to secure the league win. Maren Brady, Kelly Merrick, Katie Reilly, and Casey Harkins combined for 37 rebounds. Lauren Wilcox and Haley Ryan combined for 21 points. Katie Mossbarger and Alana Murray had 6 assists and Lindsay Hoyt had 2 steals.

 

Boys’ Results

 

Grade 2

Huskies: The Huskies were led by solid offensive performances by Dillion Robinson, Keenan Murphy, and Liam Murphy. Kyle Griffin, Jack Lydon, and Stephen Dooley played great team defense and Quinn McAndrew and Nathan Bellagamba dominated the boards.

Celtics: Great all around games from Nolan Adis, Adam Bowditch, Jimmy Gillen, and John Godino. Warriors: Patrick Grover displayed superb dribbling, Justin Engler had great shooting, and Hunter Kirkman played tenacious defense.

Strikers: Offensive players of the week are Elias Enriquez and Alexander Lloyd and defensive players of the week are William Crebbin and Christopher Giacin.

Wolverines: Offensive players of the week are Brandon Lutz and Bryce Benson and defensive players of the week are Owen Meeker and Trevor Merrick.

Orange Crush: Jack Street, Sean Roche, and Keiran Coffey led a balanced offensive attack, while Luke Hannan, Tucker Depuy, and Andrew Tomasino were dominant on the boards and gave little room for the opposition to maneuver on offense.

Wildcats: The team was led by toutstanding defensive efforts from Robert Hetzer, Jack Kuligowski, and Max Hanson and Josh Taylor and Kyle Good contributed excellent passing and scoring to lead the offense.

Grade 6

Newtown 47, Westport YMCA 35: Matt Gerics led the team with 13 points. Dillon Palumbo scored 8 and Jaime Cochrane had 7 and shot well from the outside. Ethan Carpenter, Devon Luzietti, Jared Pearson, and Andrew Svanda scored 4 each and controlled the boards.

New Milford 49, Newtown 39: Matt Gerics led Newtown’s scoring with 16 points. Ethan Carpenter had 5 and the rest chipped away at New Milford’s lead. Michael Doyle, Joey Duero, and Joshe Houle played strong defense.

Celtics 51, Huskies 44: Stephen Brittin was the top scorer for the Celtics with 12 points and Jack Procaccini added 11. Stephen Brittin led the team with eight assists. On defense, Kyle Keeping led the team with six rebounds with James Carney created turnovers with five steals. For the Huskies, Declan Sullivan led the scoring with 12 points and Gordon Walsh had 10 points. Charlie Fletcher led the defense with six rebounds. Nick Bourgeois and Andrew Ross provided speed in transition to keep the Celtics from scoring on some fast breaks.

Thunder 43, Wolfpack 24: Christian Thanasoulis scored 14 points and Thomas Gavel scored 9 points to lead the Thunder offense. Bryan Kiley led the team with five assists. On defense, Trevor Gaines had a breakout day assisted by Patrick Briscoe to keep the Wolfpack out of the paint. Michael O’Keefe combined with Robert Katrinak to lead the scoring for the Wolfpack with 6 points each. Matthew Ingwersen led the team in assists. Andrew Drap and Daniel McCarthy left it all on the floor as they battled on defense to try and keep their team in the game.

Celtics 42, Hurricanes 29: Jack Procaccini and Jake Oliger led the Celtics with 15 points and 13 points, respectively. Jeremy Salaris led the team in assists. On defense, Max Weber and James Carney created turnovers with four steals each, while Stephen Brittin and James Barry dominated the boards. James Accousti led the Hurricanes scoring with 9 points with Colin Patrick adding 8 points of his own. Sam Duffy led the team in assists. On defense Matt Meyers lead the team with six steals, while Dylan Solano and Shawn McCarthy created scoring opportunities with key offensive and defensive rebounds.

Huskies 44, Wolfpack 28: Gordon Walsh led the Huskies with 18 points with Nick Bourgeois added 6 points. Andrew Ross led the team with assists. Tommy Elliott battled in the paint to grab 8 rebounds, while Connor Flint and Andrew Ross led the defense with steals. Michael O’Keefe led the scoring for the Wolfpack with 14 points. Tucker Kistner led the team in assists dishing to Robert Katrinak who also scored 10 points. Andrew Drap and James Buck were all over the defensive boards getting the ball to Daniel McCarthy in transition for some fast break scoring chances.

Thunder 41, Magic 22: Thomas Gavel led the Magic with 14 points and Christian Thanasoulis added 12 points. Spencer Johnson led the team in assists. Dylan Tyrell sparked the defense with help from Sean Dalton to create turnovers. Kevin Chernoff and John Cagganello combined for key defensive rebounds. Maxim Donaher led the Magic with 6 points and Kevin Finnegan added 5 points. Nick Genovese led the team in assists. Nick Samuelson and Markus Wessel battled on the defensive boards. Peter Winans helped spark the defense getting some key steals.

Newtown Gold 28, New Canaan 19: Newtown pulled away in the fourth quarter as Matt Elias had 5 points to go along with his 4 steals. Geoff Santore and Mason Melillo had 4 points apiece. Ryan Shaw corralled 9 rebounds, with Alex Gerbo getting 8 rebounds.

Newtown Gold 35, Easton 34: Newtown was able to scratch out the victory in this exciting game. Matt Maturo had 10 points, while Kieran Lynch and Ryan Shaw had 7 apiece. Matt Elias chipped in with 6 points. Austin LeBlanc had several steals and hit a key foul shot down the stretch.

Newtown Gold 27, Trumbull 24: Newtown built a double-digit lead and was able to hold on for the victory. Alex Gerbo and Matt Maturo had 8 points each. Mason Melillo tallied 5. Maturo pulled down 13 rebounds and Melillo 10. James Frazzetta and Tim VanderHave played tenacious defense.

Grades 7-8

Bricklayers 42, Jazz 21: The offense for the Bricklayers was led by Patrick Afriyie with 22 points. Jaret DeVillis, Brenton Scott, and Kaustav Mitra played well on defense. For the Jazz, Ryan Errico had 9 points, while Austin Raftery and Harry Depuy controlled the boards.

Nuggets 59, Wildcats 40: Brenden Peterson led the offense for the Nuggets with 23 points and Andrew Cragin had 14 points. Wesley Morlock, CJ Dunn, and Carl Whippie had strong defensive efforts. For the Wildcats, Patrick Rowley scored 22 points. Eric Cascone, Kyle Mangold, and Mitchell Godin had strong games on both ends of the floor.

Wolfpack 35, Celtics 33: Virgil Procaccini led the offense for the Wolfpack with 18 points and Alex Romeo added 7 points. Trevor Palmer and Ben Payne had strong games. For the Celtics, Tim Kelly led the way with 10 points. Jon Sherman and Matt Baldino had good defensive efforts.

Nuggets 43, Wizards 42: For the Nuggets, CJ Dunn and Andrew Cragin combined for 18 points. Harry Duffy and Griffin Davis helped the Nuggets come back from a 16-point deficit. For the Wizards, Nick Swenson had 17 points. Don Sun, Deegan Beuuchemin, and Brian Armold led the defense.

Vipers 42, Heat 28: Shay DeMarche and Stephen Grasso combined for 24 points for the Vipers. The defense was led by Constantine Gregoire. For the Heat, Colin Reilly, Matt White, and Jeff Peterson combined for 25 points. The defense was led by Andrew Pfeiffer.

Caves 46, Magic 31: Drew Tarantino led the Caves with 16 points. William Swain, Graham Hubbert, and Nick Norberg led the defense. For the Magic, Riley Cross had 16 points. Garrison Buzzanca, Colin Morrissey and Darryl Silverlieb led the defense.

Thunder 50, Hammerheads 45: Doug Miller led the Thunder with 12 points, while Grant Ricketts and Nick Lotrecchiano had 11 points each. For the Hammerheads, Will Dalton had 22 points. Spencer Brindley, Danny Cummings, and Mike Davenport led the defense.

Huskies 29, Runnin’ Rebels 23: Bryce Decker led the Huskies with 10 points. Chris Carroll controlled the ball with 10 assists and Cameron Partrick had 10 rebounds. For the Runnin’ Rebels, Jimmy Leidlein had 12 points and Chris Hartley added 4 points.

Eagles 24, X-Men 23: Julian Dunn led the Eagles with 13 points. Joe Santella had 7 assists. Bobby Lydon and Pat Pierce led the defense. Pat Carello hit the game winning shot with seconds left. For the X-Men, Bobby Archiere had 9 points. The defense was led by Ryan Rosenberger and Tommy Shaker.
