Concert Society Chamber Orchestra’s Eighth Holiday Concert

Will Benefit Newtown Parent Connection

The Concert Society Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of renowned cellist Richard Serbagi, will perform its 8th Annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 28, at 8 pm, at Trinity Episcopal Church. A dessert reception will immediately follow the concert.

This festive program will once again feature the noted soprano Maria Ferrante and will includes a musical montage that will punctuate the holiday season.

This year’s concert will also feature the debut performance of Under the Christmas Tree for Voices and Orchestra, an original arrangement newly composed by William David Brohn, best known for his theatre scores of Miss Saigon, Ragtime and Wicked. This arrangement, comprising traditional Christmas carols, plainsong chant, and even a hint of the Nutcracker Suite, was written specifically for the Trinity Episcopal Church Choirs of Newtown.

The musical quotes from the Nutcracker, and traditional carols and chants sung by Maria Ferrante and the children’s choir from Trinity Church, will be directed by Trinity Church Music Minister Fiona Sutherland. A small semi-professional ensemble made up of the Choir of Men and Women at Trinity Church will also be performing.

Audience members will also pieces such as Concerto for Four Violins by Antonio Vivaldi, Fantasia on Greensleeves by R. Vaughn Williams, and Serenade in C by Tchaikovsky.  Works by Mozart, Gustav Mahler and Strauss will also be performed by the gifted assemblage of musicians.

Tickets are on sale now for $30 each, and can be obtained at Newtown Savings Bank, Drug Center Pharmacy, C.H. Booth Library, Bagel Delight, Newtown Youth Academy, and Newtown Youth & Family Services. Tickets may also be purchased directly through the Newtown Parent Connection website at NewtownParentConnection.org for a service fee of $1.50.

Early purchase of tickets or reservations is strongly suggested as the church sanctuary has been filled to capacity for all seven previous performances by The Concert Society Chamber Orchestra in Newtown.

Reserved tickets can be picked up at the door. There will be no ticket sales at the church the evening of the concert.

All proceeds from this concert will directly benefit the Newtown Parent Connection, Inc., an organization dedicated to educating and empowering the community in the prevention of substance abuse, and embracing families in crisis.
