School Board Starts New Year With Meetings At Canaan House

The Newtown Board of Education will no longer meet at the former district offices on Queen Street. The School District’s Central Offices have moved to Canaan House at Fairfield Hills, and so will the school board meetings.

The school board meets on the first and second Tuesday of each month. The first Tuesday is a workshop meeting, during which the board discusses issues, but takes no action. The business meeting is held on the second Tuesday and is a voting meeting.

Additional workshop meetings have been added during the beginning of the year for budget discussions. Some of the meetings will be held on days other than Tuesday, where noted. Workshops will be held on the following dates for 2001: January 2, 23 (budget), 25(Thursday – budget), 30 (budget), February 1 (Thursday – budget), 6 (proposed adoption), 8 (Thursday – secondary adoption), March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5, September 4, October 2, November 7 (Wednesday), and December 4.

Business meetings will be held on the following Tuesdays: January 9, February 13, March 13, April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, August 14, September 11, October 9, November 13, and December 11.

Directions to Canaan House are: traveling from Route 34 (Berkshire Road), turn onto Mile Hill Road, at the second traffic light take a left, at the first stop sign take a right, then at the second stop sign take a left.

If traveling from Route 25 (Main Street), turn onto Mile Hill Road, at the first traffic light take a right, at the first stop sign take a right, then at the second stop sign take a left.
