Two Charges

Police report they saw motorist Dolores Womble, 50, of Waterbury driving a vehicle on South Main Street about 5 pm on December 19 and knew that there was an arrest warrant pending against her in connection with a missed court appearance on December 7.

Police stopped Womble at a parking lot at 71 South Main Street to investigate, after which they charged her with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with three pending motor vehicle charges stemming from a May 14 incident.

Additionally, police charged Womble with driving with a suspended license in connection with the December 19 motor vehicle stop. Police released Womble from custody on $500 bail for a January 3 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Mount Pleasant Crash

Police report a vehicular accident that occurred about 9 pm on December 20 on Mount Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Taunton Lane, that resulted in four charges against the driver. There were no injuries.

Motorist Benjamin Murphy, 26, of Sandy Hook was driving a 1996 Volkswagen Passat on Mount Pleasant Road when he drove off the road’s right shoulder, re-enetred the roadway, and then drove off the road’s left shoulder, after which he struck several small trees and then hit a large rock.

After investigating, police issued Murphy a misdemeanor summons listing reckless driving, traveling too fast for conditions, failure to drive to the right on a curve, and failure to have automotive insurance. Murphy is scheduled for a January 3 court appearance to answer the charges.

SUV Vs Pole

Motorist Heliodoro Conrado, 53, of Ansonia was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty SUV northward on Mount Pleasant Road, near Mount Pleasant Terrace, about 6:46 am on December 21, when the vehicle drove off the right road shoulder and then struck a pole, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Conrado for making a restricted turn.

Berkshire Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Berkshire Road near Newtown High School about 7:14 am on December 21.

Eastbound motorist Maryann O’Donnell, 68, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee SUV, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2011 GM Terrain SUV driven by Patricia Palmer, 67, of West Haven.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned O’Donnell for following too closely.

DUI Arrest

Police report that after spotting a vehicular violation occur near the intersection of South Main Street and Ethan Allen Road at about 10:49 pm on December 21, they stopped motorist Elbert Melvin, 36, of Bridgeport, to investigate.

Police arrested Melvin on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.

After arrest processing, police released Melvin on $500 bail for a January 3 court appearance.

Three Vehicles

State police report an accident involving three vehicles on westbound Interstate 84 about 11:41 am on December 22.

The incident occurred during stop-and-go traffic on the highway. Motorist Andrew Dudley, 31, of Bristol, who was driving a 2014 Acura vehicle, stopped, after which motorist Cory Furrier, 17, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2001 Audi A-4 auto, struck the rear end of the Acura. Motorist Christopher Dibono, 19, of Carmel, N.Y., who was driving a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, then struck the rear end of the Audi.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned both Furrier and Dibono for following too closely.

Interstate Crash

About 3:41 pm on December 22, on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, motorists were experiencing congestion due to heavy traffic volume.

In slow-moving traffic, motorist Arish Dhingra, 26, of Billerica, Mass., who was driving a 2016 Honda Civic, struck the rear end of a 2016 Hyundai Accent driven by Bachir Abboud, 35, of Danbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Dhingra for following too closely.

Into The Rails

State police report that motorist Matthew Diruggiero, 23, of Jamica Plain, Mass., was driving a 2012 Honda Civic westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 4:31 pm on December 22, when he fell asleep at the wheel and drove off the left road shoulder onto the highway’s median, where he struck the flex-beam guardailing.

There were no injuries. State police issued Diruggiero an infraction for failure to maintain the lane.

Truck Vs SUV

At about 5:17 pm on December 22, Fernando Camacho, 56, of Southbury, who was driving a 2018 Ford F-350 truck on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, struck the rear end of 2013 Nissan Murano SUV driven by Donald Hanson, 54, of Southbury, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported one of the several passengers in the Nissan for treatment of minor injuries. Camacho was issued an infraction for following too closely.

Rollover

About 11:10 pm on December 23, motorist Mckenzie Seitz, 17, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2006 Subaru Impreza auto westward on Bryan Lane, near its intersection with South Main Street, when while rounding a curve in the road to the right, the auto began to fishtail, and Seitz attempted to correct for the skid, but the vehicle spun about, police said.

The Subaru slid backwards into a curb and started to roll over. The vehicle then struck an embankment, causing it to roll over and go airborne. The upside-down vehicle initially landed on a dumpster, after which it landed upright upon a parked backhoe/loader at a commercial parking lot.

Both Seitz and passenger Cecile Smith, 16, of Sandy Hook were able to get out of the auto under their own power, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance transported both girls to Danbury Hospital to be checked for minor injuries.

Botsford volunteer firefighters responded to the scene. The accident is under investigation, according to police.

Snowy Road

At about 7:36 am on December 24, motorist Quentaisa Pierce, 24, of Bridgeport, was driving a 2004 Honda Accord northward on Hattertown Road, near Dodgingtown Road, when the vehicle skidded on the snowy pavement, police said. The auto drove off the left road should and struck some guardcabling.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Pierce for traveling too fast for conditions.

Icy Road

Police report that at about 8:53 am on December 24, motorist Sophia Sweeney, 16, of Brookfield was driving a 2016 Volkswagen Beetle auto southward on Flat Swamp Road, near Dodgingtown Road, when she lost control of the vehicle on the icy pavement, drove off the right road shoulder, and then struck a tree.

There were no injuries. Police issued Sweeney an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.
