Police said this week they received reports from residents regarding the thefts of small valuables from approximately 20 parked unlocked motor vehicles which occurred overnight on December 26-27.

Those thefts were reported from streets near South Main Street, including Lovells Lane, Dogwood Terrace, Greenbriar Lane, and Apple Blossom Lane, as well as the Toddy Hill Road/Vining Road area  and the Taunton Hill Road area.

Police received the first report of a theft at about 6 am, on December 27, from a resident of Lovells Lane.

Items stolen in the thefts included loose change, cellphones, and electronic navigation units.

Police said that in some cases, thefts occurred from multiple unlocked vehicles parked in the same driveway.

An estimate of the aggregate value of the items stolen was not available.

Police urge residents to keep their vehicles locked when unattended to deter such thefts.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the thefts to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Newtown Police Department will be taking a no-excuses approach to seatbelt law enforcement, writing citations day and night, during the current Click It Or Ticket seatbelt use campaign.
