Nighthawk Grapplers Compete In Holiday Invitational

Newtown High School’s wrestling team, after battling with Bristol Eastern on December 26, competed in the Danbury Holiday Invitational on December 28. The Nighthawks (with 139 points) placed fifth in the 14-team invitational, won by Danbury (224).

Anthony Falbo took first place in the 152-pound weight class, beating Steven Beckham from Danbury. At 195, Andy Hubina went to the finals, but lost to Jared Wilsey of Bethel. Greg LaRussa (182), James Leuci (132), and Forest Speed (170) all took third place.

The Nighthawks, on December 26, hosted Bristol Eastern and won 47-24. Results of the match are as follows:

106: Thomas Leuci of Newtown pinned Joey Pletschner in 32 seconds.

113: Ed Lovely of Newtown pinned Dan Movocho in 2:27.

120: Luca Crudo of Newtown beat Josh Willson 9-0 (major decision).

126: Matt Gonzalez of Newtown pinned Dallen Pearson in 1 minute and 19 seconds.

132:  James Leuci of Newtown beat Austen Parks 6-0 (decision).

138: Zack Thompson of Bristol Eastern pinned Mike Long in 1:53.

145: Logan Walsh of Newtown beat Matt Parker 8-0 (major decision).

152: Anthony Falbo of Newtown beat Alec Barber 16-0 (technical fall).

160: Conner Lemay of Newtown beat Jared Grebowski by forfeit.

170: Forest Speed of Newtown pinned James Pavelehack in 56 seconds.

182: Greg LaRussa of Newtown beat Steve Goodrick 10-0 (major decision).

195: Tyler Pronne of Bristol Eastern pinned Andy Hubina in 1:16.

220: Jake Pelletler of Bristol Eastern won by forfeit.

285: Kyle Porter of Bristol Eastern pinned Ryan Wagner in 32 seconds
