Middle Gate Elementary School music teacher Tina Jones was ready in the school’s gymnasium on Tuesday, December 23, when students walked in for an assembly.

“This is our Middle Gate musical winter sing-a-long!” Ms Jones announced, wearing a festive hat and outfit.

After introducing students to the assembly, Ms Jones seated herself at a piano and led students and faculty through singing a Winter Fantasy and Jingle Bells combination.

Before singing the Dreidel song, Ms Jones jingle on bells through a second rendition of Jingle Bells.

Throughout the assembly, Ms Jones offered lessons on some of the traditions, like what a Driedel is and what Boxing Day celebrates.

Later during the event, third and fourth grade students led the assembly through singing Do You Hear What I Hear?

The final two songs of the day had students clapping and dancing. Before Ms Jones led students through singing and dancing to The Santa Dance, which had students and faculty  doing moves like “eat the cookies” and “ride the sleigh,” she also announced that school staff and faculty had a surprise for their students.

Ms Jones wrote her own version of Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, which she changed to Rockin’ Around Middle Gate, and the school staff had practiced performing it with her.

“We’re so happy that you’re here,” the group sang. Adding later, “And we’ll see you all next year!”

A Santa playing a blow-up saxophone entered into the gymnasium to accompany the teachers during part of the song.

Middle Gate Elementary School faculty sang Rockin’ Around Middle Gate during the school’s winter sing-a-long assembly on Tuesday, December 23. A Santa playing a saxophone, shown left, accompanied the group, and music teacher Tina Jones, kneeling front center, led the song.
