Fraser Woods Montessori School students rehearsed on Friday, March 6, just hours before they would present "Twelfth Night" before parents and friends that night. The performance, according to head of humanities and dean of the Middle School Wendy Musk, is the culmination of a course she teaches her middle school students on Shakespeare.
Inside different rooms at Sandy Hook School during the evening of Thursday, March 12, a number of “camps” were set up for the school’s Literacy Night.
Parents and students made their way through different camps throughout the evening, participating in prechosen camps from a list of options.
In Camp Word Games, students and parents played Scrabble, Boggle, Scrabble Slam, and various other games. By half-way through the evening Bananagrams, a word game that comes in a banana pouch, was noted as a clear favorite.
After arriving in Newtown on Sunday, March 15, a delegation of 21 students and two teachers were welcomed at Newtown High School on the morning of Monday, March 16, before starting a day of visiting the school.
The group, from the I.E.S. Las Encinas School, is visiting through the Newtown International Center for Education (NICE).
NHS teacher and NICE Program Manager and Europe and Spain Project Co-Manager Liz Ward-Toller and NHS Principal Lorrie Rodrigue welcomed the delegates in the school’s cafetorium at the start of the day. The visiting students were situated around the cafetorium with their host students.
Connecticut Audubon Society Education Manager and teacher Tricia Kevalis visited with Head O’ Meadow Elementary School students on Monday, March 9, with a number of other “visitors.”
Ms Kevalis explained to first grade students in Carol Howard’s class she was there to speak with the students about animals that live in Connecticut forests.
“We are going to start at the top of the forest,” said Ms Kevalis, who spoke in a number of classrooms during her visit to Head O’ Meadow.
Newtown High School will host a College and Post-Secondary Options Fair on Tuesday, March 31, from 7 to 8:30 pm, in the school’s gymnasium. Attendees will learn about post-secondary options, including traditional four-year schools, two-year schools, technical schools, and other options, including gap year programs, and military information. As of March 17, 139 schools and representatives of other options will be participating in the fair.
Newtown Middle School students have been rehearsing for their upcoming production of "Shrek The Musical Jr." Public performances are planned for March 27-29 at the middle school, while a special free performance will also be offered for senior citizens on Thursday, March 26.
Hawley Elementary School third and fourth grade students and their parents visited different stations set up in the school’s gymnasium on Wednesday, March 4, for the school’s first STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Night.
The event was sponsored by the school’s PTA and overseen by Hawley math/science specialist Jenna Connors.
“I hope this is the first of many,” said Ms Connors, with groups of people at each station around the room.
The Friday evening performance of Newtown High School’s "City of Angels" has been cancelled, due to the anticipated weather, according to Newtown High School. The musical production opened for audiences on Thursday, March 19, and is running through Sunday, March 22. "City of Angels" is a musical about a novelist trying to turn a book into a screenplay, and it shows both the plot of the writer’s attempt to create a screenplay and the plot of the fictional film being creating.
St Rose of Lima School, located at 40 Church Hill Road in Newtown, is set to hold a pre-school and kindergarten Open House for parents and prospective students on Thursday, March 26, from 9 am to 10:30 am.
Faculty, administrative staff, current parents, and admissions representatives will be available to conduct guided tours and provide information about the kindergarten and pre-school programs during the event.
St Rose of Lima pre-school opened it’s doors in 2000 and since 1989, St Rose of Lima School has offered a full-day kindergarten.
