    Housatonic Valley Waldorf School students, faculty, staff, families, and school friends welcomed spring on Friday, May 3, with traditional Maypole and Morris & Sword dances.“May Fairs all over the world are very joyous celebrations,” said Patricia Campbell, who directed the students throughout the event. “It is a time for waking up the earth after winter so that crops will grow, the flowers will come out.” Ms Campbell explained the different Morris & Sword dances performed by students on Friday, “go back to Shakespeare’s time.”

  • PTSA Award Honors Dawn Hochsprung

    At this year’s annual Awards Dinner, held at Cascade, a banquet hall in Hamden, on April 25, the Connecticut PTSA not only named Dawn Hochsprung, one of the six adult victims on 12/14, its Elementary Principal of the Year, but also renamed the award after her. Connecticut PTSA President Jim Accomando said the annual Awards Dinner was well attended, and most of the night was directed at the Sandy Hook representatives in attendance. Ms Hochsprung’s family members were also invited to the event. A number of special moments occurred during the evening, according to Mr Accomando.

  • Local Fire Companies Ready To Grill For Great Newtown Reunion

    Agreements have been reached among members of the Great Newtown Reunion Committee, Hook & Ladder Fire Company No. 1, and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, with each of the fire companies heading up separate catering responsibilities for the gathering July 27 at Fairfield Hills. Members of Newtown Hook & Ladder will be hard at work when The Great Newtown Reunion kicks off on July 27, preparing thousands of burgers and hot dogs to be sold to reunion guests. As the late afternoon approaches, Hook & Ladder personnel will switch places with their Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue counterparts, who will then prepare lobsters and steak for the second phase of the day-long event.
