Laura H. Choi, MD, has been appointed to the Department of Surgery in the Section of General Surgery. She has advanced training in laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive techniques) for general and bariatric (weight loss) surgery. She recently completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Westchester Medical Center, Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery, of New York Medical College. She completed an internship and residency in general surgery at St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Department of Surgery, in New York City. There, she received the Chief Resident of the Year Award in 2003. She earned a medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1998, after graduating from Cornell University.

Daniel Y. Reuben, MD has been appointed to the Danbury Hospital medical staff in the Department of Medicine, Section of Hematology/Oncology and is a member of Danbury Oncology Associates located in the Praxair Cancer Center. He completed his fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Yale Cancer Center. While at Yale, Dr. Reuben also served on the hospitalist physician team. He earned his medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in internal medicine at Boston University Medical Center. Dr Reuben’s extensive research has focused on cell-based therapies.

Leticia S. Agosto, RN, BS, MHA, has been appointed nurse manager of the Family Birth Center. She has worked as acting nurse manager since October 2003 while continuing her role as nurse manager of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Inpatient Pediatrics, and the Women’s Health Center. Agosto’s career at Danbury Hospital also includes positions as nurse recruiter, assistant nurse manager, and staff nurse in the NICU. She earned a master’s degree in health care administration from Western Connecticut State University, a bachelor’s degree in management from Teikyo Post University in Waterbury, and an associate’s degree in applied science from Hostos Community College in the Bronx, New York.

Adrian Campo, MD, has been appointed to the staff of the Seifert and Ford Family Community Health Center at 70 Main Street, Danbury. Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., Dr Campo and his family moved to Cordoba, Argentina, when he was a child. He graduated from Catholic University Medical School in Cordoba and then returned to the United States where he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Danbury Hospital. He is board eligible in internal medicine and has earned certificates in numerous areas including emergency medicine, sexually transmitted diseases, and medical rehabilitation. Dr Campo is fluent in Spanish and English.

Ann Marie Lavery, RN, BSN, has been named nurse manager, medicine. She comes from Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, N.Y., where she held positions as nurse manager of the critical care unit, the intermediate care unit, and the telemetry unit. She also worked at Montefiore Hospital, Bronx, N.Y., as clinical care coordinator in the critical care unit. She earned her master of science degree in health services administration from Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y., and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the College of New Rochelle. She is certified in advanced cardiac life support, arterial blood gases, venipuncture and IV therapy, nursing administration, and PRI.

Denise Peterson, RN, MS, has been appointed service line executive responsible for the surgical care center and physical medicine and rehabilitation, which includes gastroenterology services, inpatient orthopedics, neurosurgical and general surgical services, inpatient and outpatient physical medicine rehabilitation, the operating room, cardiac step-down unit, and the Duracell Center for Ambulatory Surgery. She comes to Danbury Hospital from Waterbury Hospital, where she worked for the past 22 years, most recently as administrative director of inpatient services. She earned a master of science degree in health care administration from the Hartford Graduate Center in Hartford, and a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Hartford.

UConn Medical Center

Carolyn Runowicz, MD, director of the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named president-elect of the American Cancer Society. This is the third major appointment for Dr. Runowicz. Last June, she was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as a member of the National Cancer Advisory Board, and earlier she was named a “Local Legend” by the American Medical Women’s Association. She is a strong advocate for research to improve treatments, early detection, and the prevention of cancer and recently wrote her fourth book, The Answer To Cancer, with her husband, Sheldon H. Cherry, M.D. She also is professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology with the UConn School of Medicine and director of women’s health at UConn Health Center.
