Zoo Is Looking For Christmas Trees

BRIDGEPORT — Now that the holiday season is over, The Beardsley Zoo would like to remind the public that Christmas trees can continue to bring enjoyment once they are through for decoration in the home.

The zoo is hoping to collect at least 200 Christmas trees, which will then be bundled together by the Department of Environmental Protection in the spring. The trees will then be sunk into the zoo’s revitalized Bunnell Pond to create a large breeding area for local freshwater fish including bass, sunfish, perch, crappies and pumpkinseeds.

Homeowners who would like to donate their trees to the zoo can drop their trees off any weekend during January between 11 am and 3 pm each Saturday and Sunday. The zoo is asking that trees be cleaned of tinsel, garland and any other adornment before they are dropped off.

For details or directions to the zoo, which is at 1875 Noble Avenue (signs are posted from I-95 and the Route 25 Connector), call 203/394-6565.
