Exhibit Will Offer Works By

ROXBURY — “Etchings, Watercolors and Oils,” featuring work by Robert Andrew Parker, will be on exhibit at Minor Memorial Library, 23 South Street, from Saturday, January 10, through Wednesday, February 18. The exhibition can be viewed during regular library hours: Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, Monday and Wednesday from 10 am to 7 pm, and Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. The library board invites the public to a free opening reception on Saturday, January 10, from 2 to 4 pm.

Watercolor portraits of Mr Parker’s friends and favorite authors, including Edna Ferber, John Masefield and Michael Arlen, will highlight the show. Much of the artist’s work is inspired by books he has read and by his travels, specifically trekking in the Himalayas. He has been painting all his life, ever since he was stricken with tuberculosis as a child and confined to his bed.

Mr Parker’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum, The Whitney Museum and The Brooklyn Museum in New York, as well as other important museums and private collections across the country. In addition, he has won numerous prestigious grants and prizes, most recently the Ranger Fund Purchase Prize given by the National Academy of Design.

The library is handicapped-accessible. Call 860-350-2181 for additional information and directions.
