Manfred Landers

Manfred Landers, 99, of Ridgefield, formerly of East Hampton, N.Y., died December 23 at his home.

Mr Landers was born in Hamburg, Germany, and came to this country in the early 1920s to purchase grains for flour mills owned by his family.

Mr Landers is survived by two sons, Jon Landers of Newtown, and Eric Landers of New Canaan; along with four grandchildren, Danika and Christopher Landers of New Canaan and Samantha and Stephanie Landers of Ridgefield and Newtown.

In 1940, Mr Landers founded Lanco Products, a manufacturer of food preservatives and stabilizers. He later sold Lanco to SuCrest Corp. He developed European markets for SuCrest until his retirement in 1960.

Mr Landers, then in his 70s, started an import company for cosmetics from Germany. He later sold his share in this company and started to import and export hardware, and lawn and garden products from Europe and other countries throughout the world under the Landstand Inc name.

A memorial service will be held at the Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield on Saturday, January 3, from noon to 2 pm.
