CENTER FOR PHOTOGRAPHY WOODSTOCK w/1 cut

ak/gs set 1/2/08 #724414

WOODSTOCK, N.Y. — The Center for Photography at Woodstock will present two exhibitions, which will be on view January 19–March 30.

A solo exhibition features Catskill-based photographer Jared Handelsman’s series, “Shadows,” which includes a selection of his large scale photograms and video work, haunting images of the shadows of plants and trees exposed at night by the headlights of cars passing on the road, by the light of the moon or by flashlight.

In the main gallery, “Made in Woodstock IV,” is CPW’s biennial exhibition of work created by recent participants of CPW’s residency program established for artists of color working in the photographic arts. The 12 artists included in this exhibition represent a broad range of techniques and interests as well as an acute awareness of history, politics and representational concerns.

The artists represented are Margarida Correia (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Deborah Bay (Houston, Texas), Isaac Diggs (Newburgh, N.Y.), Isabelle Lumpkin (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Marlo Marrero (Farmington, Conn.), Natasha Moustache (Dorchester, Mass.) Xaviera Simmons (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Kwabena Slaughter (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Rishi Singhal (New Delhi, India), Toshi Ueshina (Tucson, Ariz.), Vagner Whitehead (Ferndale, Mich.) and Preston Wadley (Shoreline, Wash.).

These shows will open with a reception on Saturday, January 19, from 5 to 7 pm. An Artist Talk by Jared Handelsman will be given during the opening reception.

The Center for Photography at Woodstock is at 59 Tinker Street. For information, www.cpw.org or 845-679-9957.
