If You Smoke, Make Your New Year A ‘Freshstart’

NEW MILFORD — You know that smoking increases your chances of developing heart disease, emphysema, and lung and other cancers, and that quitting smoking, no matter how long you have been smoking, decreases your risk of these smoking-related diseases.

On Tuesday, January 20, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, the New Milford Hospital Regional Heart Center begins a four-session American Cancer Society Freshstart quit smoking program. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for a two-week period.

Freshstart is the American Cancer Society’s quit smoking program, and all of the methods and activities contain the most effective elements for success. The American Cancer Society states that the single most important is element is you — and your dedication to fight the addiction to nicotine that makes you want to smoke. Freshstart can be your start to a new life without cigarettes. This program is designed to help you stop smoking, and emphasizes that smoking cessation is a two-part process: 1) stopping and 2) staying stopped.

The cost for the program is $25 per participant. At the end of the program a $5 refund will be given for each class attended.

Registration is open to the public. Preregistration is requested by calling toll-free 800-350-1595 or online at www.newmilfordhospital.org.
