Newtown High School Swimmers Shine Against Masuk

Facing a small and young Masuk High team on December 23, the Newtown High School boys’ swimming and diving contingency wasn’t worried about a win. Keeping their focus in a week that threw them a few curves, however, was a bit of a challenge. First the meet against New Fairfield was rescheduled due to the storm and then practice on Thursday was cancelled because of a chlorine problem with the pool. In nearly every heat, Newtown threw Masuk a one-two punch with the top two finishes. Shawn Mangold was strong on the diving board and qualified for the state championship in March. Newtown’s top finishers by event are as follows:
