Trimming The Fat

NEW MILFORD — If your New Year’s resolution is to lose weight or just to live a healthier lifestyle, New Milford Hospital has the program for you. On Wednesday, January 19, at 6:45 pm, registered dietitian Edward J. Hickey will provide a talk entitled “Trimming the Fat.” A free Body Fat Analysis will precede the presentation.

This lecture will encompass nutrition’s role in weight management, and in various disease states including diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. Discussion will include total body weight versus body composition (body fat percentage), exercise (aerobic/anaerobic, resistance training and target heart ranges), facts versus unproved claims of many current popular “diets,” and the safety and efficacy of weight loss supplements.

Mr Hickey is the clinical nutrition manager and director of outpatient nutrition counseling at New Milford Hospital. He recently came to New Milford from White Plains Hospital, where he spent the past five years educating patients in the area of nutrition in health and disease prevention, and medical nutrition therapy in the setting of disease states. He was an adjunct professor and clinical instructor in the Nutrition Department at Westchester Community College, and is a private consultant for many physicians in Westchester County of New York State.

This program is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is requested by calling 800/350-1595.

The Nutrition Department at New Milford Hospital is planning a 10-week weight loss program, “Wellness & You,” which will begin in February. Information regarding these classes will be available at the January 19 program.
