January Events With Alliance Francaise

SOUTHBURY — The Alliance Francaise of Northwestern Connecticut invites the public to begin the new millennium with some amusement and a challenge. The group will meet on Tuesday, January 16, from 7 to 9 pm, at Southbury Library, 561 Main Street South, for games of Scrabble, in French.

Participants are asked to bring French Scrabble boards and dictionaries if possible. The Feast of The Kings will also be celebrated in the traditional French manner. In case of snow cancellation, the program will take place on Tuesday, January 30, at the same time and place.

On Saturday, January 20, the alliance will meet for “Café Conversation” between 10 am and noon at Starbucks Café, 775 Main Street South (in Southbury Commons). At this meeting a timely subject will be chosen for discussion, based on an article which will be read first.

It is advised that participants arrive before 10:30 am so that one can benefit fully from the reading and discussion which will last until 11:45 am. In case of snow, call the café to check about a possible cancellation of this activity (267-7548).

Whether a beginner of fluent in French, all are invited to meet the members of the friendly group. Alliance Francaise is an international organization with chapters set up around the world.

To become a member of the alliance and to receive further information about its many activities, call 263-4096. “Café Conversation” programs are generally held twice each month at the Southbury Starbucks, and other special events are planned throughout the year at various locations.
