HARTFORD — Connecticut Public Radio will honor the memory of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr when it airs “A King Celebration 2001” on Monday, January 15, at 8 pm. The program will air on the 72nd anniversary of the birth of the great civil rights leader.

CT Public Radio can be heard at 90.5 FM (WPKT, Hartford/New Haven), 89.1 FM (WNPR, Norwich/ New London), 88.5 FM (WEDW, Stamford/ Greenwich) and 99.5 FM (W258AC, Storrs/Mansfield).

“A King Celebration 2001,” the newest program in National Public Radio’s annual tribute to the man and his message of hope and freedom, takes place in King’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

This year’s show will blend classical and jazz sensibilities. The mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves will perform the Brahms Alto Rhapsody and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, led by guest conductor William Eddins, will perform Duke Ellington’s Harlem.
