Dominick A. Salvatore, former Newtown resident, died December 27, in Palm Coast, Fla., surrounded by loved ones.

His loving wife of 48 years, Jean "Beans" (Birdsell); his son, retired Newtown Police Officer Dominick Jr, and wife, Kathy; his brother, Richard Salvatore, and wife, Marge, of Palm Coast; his brother, Joseph Salvatore of Connecticut; his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Underhill and husband, Fred, and Samantha Salvatore, both of Palm Coast, survive him. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. His son Robert Salvatore, and brothers Frank "Hot Dog" and Donald Salvatore predeceased him.

Mr Salvatore worked for Ethan Allen in Danbury, as well as for the Town of Newtown, before relocating to Palm Coast in 2000, where he was employed with the Flagler County School System for six years.

Known by many as "the Mayor," he enjoyed his daily rides to check on his beloved, loyal friends. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand, share some kind words, or just a simple wave "hello." He could always be counted on to have his gentle, kind soul to put a smile on people's faces.

Mr Salvatore enjoyed spending time with his loving family, fishing, golfing, and playing horseshoes with the Flagler County Horseshoe Pitching Club. He also loved eating cookies.

Services will be Saturday, January 7, at 5 pm. At Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South in Flagler Beach, Fla. Friends will be received from 4 to 6 pm.

The family also wishes to extend a special thanks to Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House and its compassionate staff and for their exceptional care and support through this difficult and sad time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, 150 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast FL 32164.
