New Owner Offers New Programming For Kidsfit

By Kendra Bobowick

The Kidsfit’s new season will also begin with a new owner as Lori McManemin takes over the exercise-oriented programs that are offered through Newtown Parks and Recreation Department.

Anticipating the start of classes on January 16 that are held in the Teen Center on Church Hill Road, Ms McManemin said, “I love children, I am a big kid myself and love participating as a teacher and instructor.”

Kidsfit, which grew from its original Creative Movements classes, now includes gymnastics, Kinderballet, Skills For Young Olympians, and other instructional courses. Added to these are two more activities that Ms McManemin will introduce.

She looks forward to Moving To Music for ages 15- to 24-months and another session for 3- and 4-year-olds. Another new course is Creative Kids, split into Tiny Artists for ages 2 and 3, and Messes And Masterpieces for ages 4 and 5.

Ms McManemin explains the benefits of the traditional and new courses. She said, “They are great programs that get the children moving.” In addition, she mentioned the benefits for learning, motor-skills development, and coordination. She also notes the social advantages of signing up with Kidsfit.

“With programs like Mom and Me a lot [of participants] are first-time parents and they make long-lasting friendships for the children and the moms.” She has also seen a small “wonderful” support system grow between the people who meet in the groups.

Recreation Supervisor RoseAnn Reggiano wants to see Ms McManemin have a successful start as the new owner of Kidsfit. She said, “I want to see her succeed and the program [continue to] succeed, It’s a program we need.”

Ms McManemin has been creating and running recreation programs for more than 15 years, and has always worked with children, she said.
