Of Many

To the Editor:

Newtowners came through once again this year with their generosity for the many needy families to make their holidays special. Many thanks to the various clubs, organizations, schools, churches, and individuals who donated money, “adopted” families, and gave their time to deliver to the needy families on Depot Day. Saturday, December 16, was Depot Day; all gifts, nonperishable food, and supplies were brought to Sandy Hook School in the morning and later delivered to the families.

Newtown Social Services, under the leadership of Ann Piccini and Jo Anne Klopenstein, qualified and provided The Newtown Fund with 80 families that needed “adopting” this year, and as always, they were all adopted! Newtown Fund board member Rick Mazzariello, who takes all the calls each year to adopt out the families and coordinates with Ann and Jo Anne, did another fabulous job.

Many, many thanks to The Newtown Junior Women’s Club who once again ran their annual Tag-A-Gift program, supplying additional toys for the needy children. The Girl Scouts for their lovely homemade ornaments and wreaths. Pitney Bowes for providing the hundreds of boxes and tape needed. And the Boys Scouts are always a helpful force on Depot Day.

On behalf of the members of The Newtown Fund, we would like to express our thanks to everyone for their help in making this the best holiday season for Newtown’s needy families. Once again, I am proud to say; what a wonderful and generous town we live in!!
