Newtown Lions Club will sponsor an American Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday, January 12, at Newtown Congregational Church. The blood drive will be conducted in The Great Room of the church, at 14 West Street.

The hall is on the main floor of the building, and is reached easiest through the upper rear entrance. The building is handicapped accessible, however, so all entries will provide easy access to the hall.

Donors must be at least age 18, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in generally good health.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are suggested and can be made by calling 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767) or visiting redcrossblood.org.

Lions Club members volunteer their time to cover resting tables for donors, making sure they are not having any trouble after donating blood. The Lions give juice and snacks to each donor, from 8:15 in the morning until to after 7 pm.

Newtown Woman’s Club and Women Involved in Newtown support the Lions Club by handling registration and snacks during the event. Dunkin’ Donuts  will be supplying coffee for entire day.

The American Red Cross has teamed up with Dunkin’ Donuts for a special offer this month. Each person who donates blood during the month will receive a $5 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card.

Those participating in an American Red Cross blood drive on December 8 at Newtown Middle School are being asked to bring a donation with them for FAITH Food Pantry.
Newtown Lions Club will host the first of its two annual American Red Cross blood drives on January 12. A day-long event is planned to take place in The Great Room of Newtown Congregational Church.
